There are many\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003emethods proposed for Background Subtraction algorithm in past years.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eBackground subtraction algorithm is widely used for real time moving object\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003edetection in video surveillance system. In this paper we have studied and\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eimplemented different types of methods used for segmentation in Background\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003esubtraction algorithm with static camera. This paper gives good understanding\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eabout procedure to obtain foreground using existing common methods of\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eBackground Subtraction, their complexity, utility and also provide basics which\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ewill useful to improve performance in the future . First, we have explained the\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ebasic steps and procedure used in vision based moving object detection.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThen, we have debriefed the common methods of background subtraction like\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eSimple method, statistical methods like Mean and Median filter, Frame\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eDifferencing and W4 System method , Running Gaussian Average and\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eGaussian Mixture Model and last is Eigenbackground Model. After that we\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ehave implemented all the above techniques on MATLAB software and show\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003esome experimental results for the same and compare them in terms of speed\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eand complexity criteria.
