The first, which was the constitutional revolution of 1905-09, was originated from Iranian nationalism, socialism and liberalism; finally led by the modern intelligentsia, which succeeded in framing a predominantly secular constitution. The second and the most controversial one, was the Islamic revolution of 1977-79, rooted and inspired by Iranian nationalism and Islam.
