The study employed a multi-method approach, and the overall approach followed that of Van de Ven's model of ¿engaged scholarship¿. The model recommends a staged approach to theory development with knowledge experts, in addition to theory testing. The theory building stage of this book involved comparative case studies of five high transforming firms and five low transforming firms, followed by a focus group with senior IT professionals.
