{"product_id":"from-doodlebug-to-oppenheimer-von-konrad-kirsch","title":"From Doodlebug to Oppenheimer","description":"The analysis of the corpus formed by Christopher Nolan’s works allows us to derive its poetics. The\nkey to this is provided by the magic tricks script in »The Prestige«. All of Nolan’s films from Insomnia\nonwards are influenced by this aspect. The analysis not only shows how outstanding Nolan’s films\nare, but they also prove to be surprisingly political. The joker in »The Dark Knight« turns out to be\nthe embodiment of neoliberalism, and in »The Dark Knight Rises«, we see Bane, a populist who benefits\nfrom the destruction that his neoliberalism wreaks. »Inception« is an allegory of filmmaking entirely\nshaped by the script of magic tricks. »Interstellar« and »Tenet« are about how humanity reacts\nto the climate catastrophe: in »Interstellar«, all that remains for humanity is to flee into space; in\n»Tenet«, Nolan allows future generations to fight back against the present. With the first nuclear\nbomb the protagonist of »Oppenheimer« gives humanity the power to destroy itself. In doing so,\nhe not only heralds the atomic age but also the anthropocene.\n\nOther key topics in this analysis: the attack on the Kiev Opera house in »Tenet« and the Russian\nwar against Ukraine in 2022; the references in »Inception« on Andrei Tarkovsky’s »Solaris«; the relation\nof the dead female characters in Nolan’s films to Edgar Allan Poe’s »The Philosophy of Composition«; \nin Nolan’s later films, the canary birds of »The Prestige« transformed into planes; the escape from earth in \n»Interstellar« complemented by the evacuation in »Dunkirk«; the interdependencies between »Interstellar« \nand Zack Snyder’s »Man of Steel«; neoliberalism reflected in Michael Mann’s thriller »Thief«; the allusions\nin »Tenet« on the James Bond film »Skyfall« by Sam Mendes. Because of the last point, there is a digression\nthat deals with »Skyfall«. Against the background of changing gender relations, Bond is looking for a\nnew identity. Silva’s homosexuality is a cipher for misogyny, and the femicide on Sévérine is a reference\nto the death of Joan Vollmer Burroughs. This includes an explanation of why Bond has to do without his \nBeretta in Terence Young’s »Dr No« and is instead accompanied through his film series by the »triumvirate« \nof the Walther PPK, the Aston Martin, and the Vodka Martini. These findings are looked at in relation to \nDaniel Craig’s subsequent Bond films.\u003cdiv class=\"aw-variant-hidden-subtitle-div\" id=\"aw-variant-subtitle-9783869050379\"\u003e\u003ch3\u003eAn Analysis of Christopher Nolan’s film work\u003c\/h3\u003e\u003c\/div\u003e","brand":"Autorenwelt Shop","offers":[{"title":"Hardcover - 9783869050379","offer_id":47479954833733,"sku":"9783869050379","price":49.0,"currency_code":"EUR","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0940\/0622\/files\/6a8ed0af-c67c-46d9-a837-eb0ea5121407.jpg?v=1778910503","url":"https:\/\/shop.autorenwelt.de\/en\/products\/from-doodlebug-to-oppenheimer-von-konrad-kirsch","provider":"Autorenwelt Shop","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
