The research is an\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eethnographic account of the violence and its impact as lived by the people and compares the\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003edistress among two populations of Manipuris, one exposed to insurgency and one unexposed\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ein order to arrive at a comparative understanding of effects of violence on mental health and\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003equality of life.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eChapter 1 gives a broad overview of various theories and approaches used in anthropology\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eand other disciplines to understand violence, its different types and implications as well as\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003edetailed review of literature on political and ethnic violence in Manipur, north east as well as\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eabroad. It also discusses the theoretical trajectories of the present research.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eChapter 2 discusses the materials and methods employed to conduct this study, and gives\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eboth phenomenological layout of the qualitative design as well as an inventory of various\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003epsychological measures used to collect quantitative data on mental health variables and\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003equality of life. It also discusses the limitations and scope of this research.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eChapter 3 present a bird's eye view on ethnographic genesis of insurgency throughout the\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ehistory as experienced by the people of Manipur. In addition to listing in detail the insurgent\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003egroups and associated violence, it also discusses socio-political and ecological aspects\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003einterweaved with the insurgency as affective of mental well being.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eChapter 4 discusses the physical distress experienced by the insurgency affected group of\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003epeople as opposed to those unexposed to the violence due to out migration.
