Yet, if one takes a closer look at the\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003epreconditions, it becomes clear that Americäs decision was essentially like choosing between the\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003edevil and the deep sea ¿ the decision to invade Iraq had as many negative consequences as to\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003erefrain from acting.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThis paper will assess the negative consequences of the U.S. American invasion of Iraq\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eon the democratic development in the Greater Middle East area. I intend to look at the social and\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003epolitical developments in various authoritarian regimes before the year 2003 and compare and\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003econtrast it to the 2005 status quo.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe example of Iran will be closely analyzed in a case study; to see what changes the\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003einvasion of Iraq has brought about in Iran. The underlying hypothesis is, that U.S. presence in\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eIraq has increased radicalism among Iranian leaders, and decreased the countries chances to\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003edemocratize.
